Made For Mama Shop Featured on the Today Show

One month ago, one of the coolest experiences of my life happened. Made For Mama Shop…our mama-owned, small business was featured on the Today Show. It was surreal, and I still get so overcome with so many emotions when I watch the segment! They captured our brand, our mission and our story so perfectly!

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how it happened, how it’s effected our business and what it all looked like, so I thought I’d share about it all for those of you who are curious. I’m hoping that by sharing this it may inspire you or bring you a little bit of happiness and joy…I know I can’t help but smile every time I watch the segment.

So here’s how it all went down…..

Back in September, I received an email from someone who was inviting me to apply to be featured in some local ads and on tv. I went through this process of listening to a video, filling out a form, and getting my hopes up…only to find out that it was a pitch….and they wanted me to pay thousands of dollars for this service. So…..

If you know me, you know that when things like this happen to me, I don’t let it discourage me, instead, it FUELS me. So that day when I realized what it was all about, I researched…I researched, googled and listened to podcasts about pitching myself to the media. I don’t know WHY it happened like this, how the timing fell into place like it did….when I think back to it, it’s all just so crazy how it worked out. Anyways, that night I pitched Made For Mama Shop to the Today Show for their She Made It Segment..it was relevant, timely and I knew that our products could help bring some happiness into homes this holiday season.

The next day, I heard back from the Today Show that they were booked through November but they’d reach back out….I figured okay, that’s fine, but added a reminder to my calendar to email her back on 11/1. Much to my surprise, she reached back out in mid-October and wanted to interview me….I actually ended up interviewing with a couple people and producers. It was so much fun sharing our story and all about our brand and what we’ve created this past year.

The segment aired on 12/3/20……I had anxiety for about 2 weeks leading up to it. There was A LOT of work to do for them leading up to it to make sure they had photos, videos, voice overs, scripts, etc.

Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect when it aired. I had someone tell me that they were on a morning show and saw no orders from it, and that was fine with me…..I just thought it’d be cool to be on and have our family and friends watch and the kids!

To set the scene, in true real motherhood fashion….one child was throwing a tantrum and one was more concerned about logging into virtual school on time than seeing himself on tv. LOL…But as soon as they saw their faces on the tv, they stopped and smiled and loved it.

Instantly, my phone started “cha-chinging” and the orders started rolling in….and they didn’t stop for about two days. I couldn’t stop crying. I’m getting teary as I type this and think back on it. The coolest part wasn’t actually the orders---it was the emails from people sharing their own stories, the messages from strangers about how proud they were of me, the phone calls from people all over the country saying they just watched our segment and were so moved they couldn’t wait to support our family business this holiday season. The CONNECTION that was made is indescribable.

I’d be lying if I said the week after was easy—I had an entire ream of paper full of orders for me to fulfill. Luckily, my dad helped put boxes together, I had a girlfriend come help me one night and my husband helped me one night too. It was a lot…it was exhausting, but SO FULFILLING, knowing how many of those were being sent to people who couldn’t be with their loved ones. There were also mistakes I made with inventory that I had to correct…it wasn’t all pretty….but it got done, and I think everyone was happy!

I have tried to find ‘that thing’ for almost six years now….I was in two different network marketing companies before I started the shop….I was growing the whole time, open to anything that would come my way. I finally found the thing that is not only making a difference to others, but substantially helping our family and will help other families in the near future.

That one opportunity has changed my little family’s life. It’s allowed us to breathe a sigh of relief after the past couple years of me being home with the kids and doing what we could to stay afloat. Sometimes you have to advocate for yourself…put yourself out there, even if it’s scary. You never know what could come from it.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my story and for allowing me to open my heart. Just know that I’m always here cheering you on, too. <3
